DicE and The 101 Run

Some creative partnerships grow organically over time—and my work with DicE Magazine and The 101 Run is a perfect example of that.

It began in 2023, shortly after I relocated to Margate. I was looking for a barber and was recommended Old Town Barbers, where I became friends with the owner, Callum. Over a few months of haircuts and conversations, we bonded over our shared interests—particularly my past involvement in the barbering world through Hard Grind and the charity event BarbersRide, where barbers rode motorbikes across the UK to raise funds.

When I outgrew my studio space, Callum offered me the basement of his shop. I transformed it into the Disaster Dungeon, a pop-up gallery and creative studio, which launched in September 2023. Shortly after opening, we hosted a party for DicE Magazine—a connection Callum already had—which introduced me to the team behind both DicE and The 101 Run, a Margate-based motorcycle ride-out and showcase.

One of the best things about a barber shop is its role as a community hub. Through those conversations, I learned that The 101 Run team needed a new poster and logo for their 2024 event. I jumped at the opportunity—there’s something deeply fulfilling about contributing creatively to local events.

For the logo, I drew inspiration from an existing handmade banner featuring lightning bolt-shaped “1”s, combining that with vintage motorcycle emblems to give it a timeless feel—something that would look just as good on a bike as on a poster. The poster itself featured “Steven Seagle”, a tattoo-inspired eagle/seagull hybrid clutching the new logo—blending local Margate iconography with classic biker energy. I also developed a full line of merchandise designs based on the artwork to keep the visual narrative consistent throughout the event. We even painted a temporary mural in town as part of some guerrilla marketing.

As part of the agreement, I was given a stall at the 2024 event, which I used to launch a small apparel range aimed at the motorbike crowd—classic humour-led T-shirt designs with a modern twist. I also co-hosted the pre-party at the Dungeon with Callum and Old Town Barbers. The weekend was a blast—full of creativity, connection, and plenty of new friendships.

In early 2025, I continued the relationship by designing an alternative poster for the 2025 101 Run, after the original design wasn’t approved by the venue (they weren’t keen on the flames). I created a cleaner, high-impact poster inspired by classic motorcycle event flyers from the team’s archives.

That same year, I was honoured to create the cover art for DicE Magazine issue #107, marking the publication’s 21st anniversary. I leaned into my tattoo-inspired collage style, filling the cover with layered references to the DicE world and crafting a custom logo unique to that issue. We printed it in bold neon inks for maximum shelf appeal. To celebrate the launch, we threw a party at Blondies Brewery in London, inviting readers to bring their bikes, hang out, and join us for an afterparty at their sister venue. I also produced limited-edition merch—a hoodie, hat, and T-shirt featuring artwork from the cover—which sold out on the day.

This collaboration has been one of the most rewarding of my career—full of freedom, trust, and mutual respect. I'm looking forward to being part of the 2025 101 Run and hope this partnership continues to grow. But even if it ended tomorrow, I’d be proud of the work we’ve created and the community it’s helped strengthen.
